TEETH WHITENING

What does treatment involve?
Your journey begins with a detailed clinical assessment to confirm your suitability for professional whitening. Precise digital scans of your teeth are then taken and sent to our specialist laboratory, where your bespoke whitening trays are carefully crafted.
At your fitting appointment, your custom trays will be expertly adjusted, and you will be guided through the correct application of your professional whitening gel to ensure safe, predictable, and beautifully natural results.
How long should I wear the trays?
Wear time varies depending on your desired level of brightness and your starting tooth shade. Teeth that are naturally darker or more heavily stained may require a longer whitening period.
Typically, trays can be worn overnight or for one to two hours during the day. Most patients begin to see noticeable improvement within 2–3 weeks, with teeth often lightening by approximately 4–5 shades.
What if I experience sensitivity?
Mild tooth sensitivity is the most common side effect of professional home whitening and is usually temporary. Should sensitivity occur, we recommend pausing treatment briefly.
Using a desensitising toothpaste within the whitening trays for around one hour daily can help alleviate symptoms. If you suspect sensitivity may be related to underlying issues such as defective fillings, cracks, or decay, you should contact House of Smiles promptly for assessment.
How long do the results last? Will I need to whiten again?
Your brighter smile can remain stable for a considerable period, although longevity depends on lifestyle factors such as smoking and frequent consumption of coffee, red wine, or cola.
Many patients choose to maintain their results with occasional top-up whitening for a few nights each month, keeping their smile consistently fresh and luminous.
Will I need further treatment?
As whitening treatments do not alter the colour of existing fillings, crowns, or veneers, some patients may wish to update older restorations to harmonise with their new shade. In certain cases, additional cosmetic refinements such as composite bonding may be recommended to further enhance your final result.
Does whitening harm the teeth or gums?
When carried out using professionally prescribed home whitening systems, teeth whitening is considered safe and well tolerated. Extensive clinical research confirms that, when used as directed, it does not damage the teeth, gums, or surrounding oral tissues.
